Special Food Capacity Enhancement Series: Clinical and Innovation-Based Technology Development Workshop Successfully Held

  On the morning of 8 January,as part of its workshop series on special food capacity enhancement,the CNHFA held the Clinical and Innovation-based Technology Development Workshop.In attendance were dozens of representatives from various regulatory departments,member enterprises,and research institutes.The workshop was hosted by Hao Bin,Director of the CNHFA's Comprehensive Business Department.

  This is the fifth event in the series on enhancing the capacity of special food products.Authoritative experts are invited to present and share their views on the characteristics of and clinical research into Food for Special Medical Purposes(FSMP),as well as its application to renal diseases,and those early life gut microbiota and factors affecting their growth.


  Weng Min,Director of the Department of Clinical Nutrition at the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University,gave a comprehensive and systematic introduction covering several aspects,including an overview of chronic kidney disease,the incidence and implications of malnutrition in chronic kidney disease,guidelines for the nutritional treatment of chronic kidney disease in China,and the characteristics and clinical application of renal FSMP.In particular,she explained the differences between FSMP for renal disease and standard FSMP in terms of protein,energy density,nutrient restriction,and so forth.For example,the former contains 100%high-quality protein,a 25%-35%fat-to-energy ratio,<10%saturated fatty acids,low potassium,low sodium,and low phosphorus.

  Referring to a large volume of experimental data and in-depth cases,Yao Ying,Director of the Department of Clinical Nutrition at Union Hospital,Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,presented FSMP clinical studies on kidney diseases both in China and overseas.She also shared data related to the effect of oral nutritional supplementation(ONS).

  Jan Knol,Professor of Microbiology at Wageningen University and Research and Development Director at Danone Nutricia in the Netherlands,Singapore and Paris,shared his views on early life gut microbiota and the factors that influence their growth.

  Furthermore,the CNHFA will continue to pay close attention to the needs of industry practitioners and organise more activities around research and development,production,and regulation so as to further enhance communications.The event was supported by Danone Asia Pacific(Shanghai)Management Co Ltd,which is the vice president company of CNHFA.
