College Students' Food Safety and Nutrition Educational Tour in China Launched

   On June 17, 2019, the launching ceremony of the “College Students' Food Safety and Nutrition Educational Tour in China” was held at the College of Food Science and Nutrition Engineering of China Agricultural University. More than 200 representatives from government regulatory departments, think tanks, universities, news media and food production and operation companies participated in the event.
  
  The event was jointly organized by the China Nutrition and Health Food Association and the Food Science and Engineering Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. As one of the key activities of all departments and commissions of the State Administration for Market Regulation during the 2019 National Food Safety Publicity Week, the Tour is mainly aimed at the elderly and children, and organizes university students to hold special activities such as nutrition health lectures, summer camps, and nutritional status surveys at grass-roots level. The goal of the Tour is to disseminate food safety and nutrition knowledge, raise awareness of food safety among the general public, enhance consumer rights and scientific literacy, and improve public attention to food safety and nutritional health. This year, nearly 30 food science universities including China Agricultural University, Northwest A&F University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Jiangnan University, Beijing Forestry University, and South China University of Technology participated in the activities.
  
  Bian Zhenjia, President of the China Nutrition and Health Food Association, said: "It is the unshirkable responsibility of an industry association to pay attention to the food safety of the elderly and children and to scientifically disseminate food safety and nutrition knowledge." The China Nutrition Health Food Association will always give full play to the advantages as an industry organization, gather more resources, disseminate food safety information, popularize food safety knowledge, improve the health of all people, and strive to form a good atmosphere for everyone's participation and social co-governance.
  
  Zhou Shiping, Director of the Special Food Safety Supervision and Management Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, said that the work on special food safety had achieved positive results with the joint efforts of all sectors of society in recent years, and that the food safety situation had continued to improve thought there were still some problems. He added that we must focus both on regulation and science popularization, and promote each other to achieve a new level of special food safety. From May to December of this year, the Association have carried out and will continue to carry out public health food science popularization and promotion activities themed “Scientific Cognition of Health Foods, Transparent and Rational Consumption”. The purpose is to enhance science popularization and promotion of special foods while promoting social co-governance to ensure food safety. It is necessary for all parties in the society to build a long-term relationship. It is hoped that everyone can actively participate in science popularization and promotion activities, being a part of series activities of the College Students' Food Safety and Nutrition Educational Tour in China.
  
  During the event, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued a public service advertisement for “Prevention of Health Food Fraud and False Propaganda”. The advertisement centered on the core concept of “health food is not a drug, cannot replace drugs to treat diseases”. It was displayed to guide the whole society to scientifically recognize health foods, advocate transparent and rational consumption, and raise public awareness of fraud prevention and false propaganda. Issuing of public service advertisements is one of the important measures for public health food science popularization and promotion activities, which has been and will continue to be carried out nationwide from May to December 2019.
  
  The activities of the Tour cover 23 provinces, autonomous regions, and direct-administered municipalities, and involves 96 teams which is consisted of more than 1,300 teachers and students from 30 colleges and universities in 17 provinces. It is aimed to alleviate poverty in a precise manner based on the “five advances” proposed by the State Administration for Market Regulation, and to encourage college students to go to the countryside as a social worker. All sectors of society are welcome to follow and participate in the activities.
