Two Departments Jointly Issue the National Food Safety Standard: Good Manufacturing Practice for Health Foods

On 25 September, the National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued the National Food Safety Standard: Good Manufacturing Practice for Health Foods (GB 17405-2025). Revised within the framework of the National Food Safety Standard — General Hygiene Specifications for Food Production (GB 14881), this updated standard replaces the Good Manufacturing Practice for Health Foods (GB 17405-1998). It introduces amendments to multiple areas of the original standard, including site selection and factory environment, premises and workshops, facilities and equipment, health food raw materials, excipients and food-related products, food safety control during production, and requirements for validation and inspection. It also adds new provisions on food safety management, product recall and traceability, and guidelines for zoning production areas for different categories of health foods.
