The National Food Safety Standard: General Specifications for Foods for Special Medical Purposes (GB 29922-2025) will come into effect on 2 September 2027. The standard introduces new product categories, including “Partially Nutritionally Modified Complete Nutrition Formula Foods.” Food protein allergy-specific complete nutrition formula foods are reclassified as partially nutritionally modified complete nutrition formula foods. The original standard’s protein (amino acid) components are refined into protein components, essential amino acid components, branched-chain amino acid components, arginine components, glutamine components, and metabolic disorder amino acid (or peptide) components. Appendix C on monomeric amino acids has been revised to align with the “Announcement on the Management of Amino Acids in Foods for Special Dietary Uses” (Announcement No. 11 of 2023), clarifying the permissible sources of monomeric amino acids and related compounds. Their quality specifications must comply with this Announcement and/or the relevant standards and/or other applicable regulations.
